Aloe Vera plants are succulents when they experience a frost the water they contain freezes then expands and destroys the internal structure of the plant. Curiously the Aloe may look undamaged but over the following weeks the spiky leaves with slump then turn to slime. I don’t know why that should harm the roots but from my experience the Aloe Vera plant will never recover.
